What is Q-switched laser and how does it work?

The Q switched Nd:Yag laser is a  high energy , short pulsed (10-20 nanoseconds) laser .The energy of Q-switched Nd: YAG laser can be absorbed by the blue & black pigment in the skin lesion Or tattoo .The pigment will be fragmented so small that it can be disposed off by the body’s immune system .
The laser has the option of two wavelengths in one machine, these are: 532nm and 1064nm Nd:YAG.  These wavelengths add flexibility to the treatment options for tattoo as well as for the skin blemishes and lesions that the Q-Switch Laser has been engineered to remove.
Skin and cosmetology Clinic has chosen the Q-Switch Laser for its proven effectiveness arising from the combination of high power and nanosecond pulses that deliver peak energy to the epidermis & dermis faster than the normal relaxation time of the tissue. The result is a safe, effective way to control the laser energy and safely achieve desired results.

Expected Results from Q Switched Laser

Superficial lesions like freckles & lentigenes usually respond within 1-3 sessions. Deeper lesions may take 5-12 sessions. Laser treatment for tattoo may require 2-20 sessions depending upon its size & color.

Patch test can be done for deep lesions, large Tattoos & in all apprehensive patients.

Suncreeens – Cosmeticeuticals for Skin Protection from Sun

About Sunscreen lotions Sun Screens

Sun Screens is a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that absorbs or reflects Sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin exposed to sunlight. UV rays from sun damage the skin, age it prematurely, and increase your risk of skin cancer.

Sunscreen should be used every day since even on a cloudy day 80% of the Sun’s rays reach the earth’s surface. Apply Sunscreen to dry skin about 15-30 minutes before going outdoors. Re-apply after sweating swimming or toweling off. Water resistant sunscreens protect skin for 40 minutes of water exposure. Waterproof sunscreens protect for 80 minutes. Choose your sunscreen accordingly.

Sunscreen Formulations:  Sunscreens come with different formulations. You can choose one based on your skin type.

  • For Oily Skin – Gels
  • For Dry Skin – Lotions
  • For body – Sprays.

Another important factor to consider while choosing the Sunscreen is Sun protection factor (SPF) of the Sunscreen. Higher the SPF, higher the protection from UV rays. But sunscreens with higher SPF will also have more sunscreen oil and a heavier, greasy consistency.

Other important Tips for protection of Skin from Sun:

  • Minimize sun exposure between 10am and 4pm when the worst and greatest quantity of ultraviolet light exists. Follow the shadow rule that is if your shadow is longer than your height , it is okay to be outside.
  • Wear prtotective eyewear. Sunglasses with UV-blocking filters are very important . The eye is the 2nd most common site in which melanoma develop.
  • Wear Hats. Each inch of hat brim can lower your lifetime risk of cancer by 10%.
  • Check the UV index each day and dress accordingly if possible. Check the internet , your local newspaper, television or radio for your local daily UV index.
